Make a list of things you accomplished in 2020.
It can be so easy to overlook all of the things you have done, to say you haven't accomplished anything, and start the year off feeling like a failure. Especially this year, it has been so easy to go down that rabbit hole of negativity and ignore all of the good that is there; no matter how small, there is good in the world. That's why this list is important. It doesn't matter how big or small the accomplishment is, whether or not it was one of your goals, whether or not it was something you needed to accomplish, just write it down. You have no idea how good this will make you feel. It will make you have a much more positive mindset toward the new year.
2. Make a list of the most meaningful lessons you have learned.
This doesn't mean you write down that you write down how you finally learned how to fry an egg or boil some water.šš You need to dig deep and look inside yourself. What kind of person have you become. What is different about you now from at the beginning of the year? The list you make should have things like how you learned how to put yourself first and stop letting people walk all over you, how you have learned to choose friends that have your back and are going to last you a lifetime, or challenges that you've faced and how you've grown from them. It might take a while but those are the things you should write about in this list.
3. Finish any outstanding tasks you might have.
Get all the things that you don't want hanging over your head in the new year over and done with. Go get your annual physical, get your eyes checked, get your teeth cleaned, finish any outstanding projects. Doing this will help you get into the new year with a clear head and help you have a fresh start.
4. Declutter everything !!!!!
I don't mean to sound dramatic but the new year is the best time to do this. Start with your technology. Unsubscribe from all those mailing lists that you don't read and maybe even save some money. Unfollow those people who don't seem to add any value to your life or who even add negativity into it. Clear all the junk mail. Next move to your surroundings. There are so many places to declutter. Declutter your workspace, your bag, your wallet, your room. Marie kondo everything!š This will not only make you feel better it will give you a clean slate to take on the new year.
5. Clean out your closet.
This is definitely one of my favorites. We sometimes forget that we are changing and our style and taste are changing. So what we liked at the beginning of the year, we might not like anymore. So go back to your closet and take out anything that is no longer your style, doesn't fit, or doesn't bring you joy anymore and you can even sell it online. Make sure you like and wear everything in your closet. You will not only have a lot more space in your closet, but it will also make it a lot easier when you get ready in the morning.
6. Upgrade your surroundings.
It is very easy to get bored in our surroundings, especially this year with being at home a lot more. While a lot of us cannot afford to give our rooms a total makeover whenever we get bored, something easy we can do to upgrade our surroundings is to just get something small like a plant, poster, coffee mug, house slippers. Just something small that you use every day to give you some inspiration. It might not be much but it is enough to add a little boost of serotonin and joy into your life; keep you excited for the year.
7.Plan a health or workout routine.
This shouldn't be the new year's resolution type of routine where you tell yourself you're going to work out every day for the rest of the year and it only lasts three days. Plan out something realistic. Scale back if you have to. You can even make it something as simple as one healthy habit to incorporate into your life; eating one healthy meal a day. It doesn't have to be all or nothing, it just has to be something you can stick with long term.

8.Plan something that inspires you.
This can be anything from a trip that you want to take in the future, what you would do on your gap year, redesign your room, plan out your outfits create a new self-care routine. Plan it out in detail, do a lot of research on it and get all the information you can on it as If you are actually going to do it. Something that will inspire you and lift your spirits for the new year.
9. Reinvent yourself.
New year new beginnings. If you're looking for the ultimate fresh start, this is a good place to start. Look within yourself and see what you'd like to change. It doesn't have to be negative. Look at all the best parts of the people that inspire you or that you love, if that's something you'd like to be, try it out.
10. Pick a theme.
Pick a word that describes what you want your year to be. This can anything you want it to be. Let it represent something that you want, a goal, an aspiration, a desire. My word this year is 'Adventure'.
11. Form new habits.
These habits should help you embrace your theme. If your theme is growth then you should form habits like reading or taking online classes; things that will lead to self-improvement. As my theme is 'adventure', I will be working on doing things outside my comfort zone, trying new things, taking road trips, taking more pictures, traveling ( if corona allowsš š¤).
12. Set inspiring goals.
These are goals that look within your truest, happiest self. Don't just say " I want to stand up for myself more", say " I want to stand up for myself more because it lets people know to treat me better and I am happy when people treat me with the respect I deserve". The second goal is better because you can always come back to the " why" of your goal. Look to your past experiences of when you were the happiest, "where were you? Who were you with?" and try to replicate that.
13. Make new affirmations.
This is a short phrase to remind yourself whenever you forget the goals you had set for yourself. An example of this is; " I feel so happy, confident and fulfilled in myself because I stand up for myself".
14. List the experiences you want in 2021.
This list should contain all the things you have always wanted to try, have been scared to try, and are excited to try. The sky is the limit here. Some of the things on my list are; rock climbing, making a self-care routine, make a pen-pal (like the old days with letters and
stamps), take a technology time-out, and go on a road trip.
15. Update your vision board.
We don't go through life wanting the same things. So whether you want to make an entirely new vision board or simply update the one you already have, it's important to help you go back and reevaluate your goals. There are so many ways to make a vision board. You can do the craftsy kind where you cut out pictures from a magazine and put them somewhere where you can see them every day, you can also make an album on your phone or save it as the background on your laptop or computer. A good place to make your vision board online is an app called Milanote. It is completely free and has tons of templates to choose from.
This is what my vision board looks like so far.
A little reminder.
Always trust your dreams, they've chosen you as much as you've chosen them.
